Defiance at Transylvania: Game One / Game Two

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Defiance dropped each game of Saturday’s doubleheader at Transylvania and fell to 0-3 in the Heartland Conference after the opening weekend of action, falling 8-1 and 16-5.

The Yellow Jackets rapped out nine hits in the opening game but failed to dent the scoreboard until the seventh inning, falling 8-1.

Lenny Koesters scored DC’s lone run of the game and collected three hits while Phil Kosier went 1-2 and Brad Timofeev picked up a hit and had the only RBI of the early game.

The offense stayed hot in the nightcap, again with Koesters leading the way with a multi-hit performance. The senior center fielder went 2-5 with a run scored and one RBI and Jeremy Hawkins added two more hits and scored a run.

Koesters went 5-9 with a pair of runs scored on Saturday.

For the game, Defiance scored five times on 12 hits but had no answer for a potent Pioneer offense which blitzed the Jackets for 16 runs on 19 hits.

The Jackets (4-9, 0-3 HCAC) will play at Heidelberg on Wednesday before hosting Franklin on Friday and Saturday.
