GREENWOOD, Ind. Defiance junior wide receiver Luke Dillon became the fifth Yellow Jacket player to be named as a Player of the Week in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference during the 2006 season after pulling down a trio of touchdown catches in DC’s 45-13 homecoming victory over Anderson on Saturday.
Dillon turned in his best game of the season to ignite the Defiance offense to a 32-point margin of victory over the Ravens. With the score knotted at 7-7 heading into the second quarter, Dillon took over the game by hauling in touchdown catches of 10, 32 and 15 yards over the next three Purple and Gold possessions to push the Jacket lead to a commanding 28-7 cushion.
Over the second and third quarters alone, Dillon had five catches for 105 yards and three scores and also turned in an 11-yard rush. Along with Dillon’s three touchdowns, the Temperance, Mich, native also set up a fourth Defiance score when he snatched a 43-yard toss at the Anderson five-yard line.
For the game, Dillon had a game-high six catches and posted season highs with 123 yards and three touchdowns. The 43-yard reception was also the longest of the year for Dillon.
Dillon leads all Defiance receivers with 26 catches, 334 yards, 12.8 yards per catch, 55.7 yards per game and five touchdowns.
The Jackets (5-1, 3-0 HCAC) will try to keep their perch atop the HCAC standings when they play at Hanover (2-4, 1-2 HCAC) on Saturday at 1:30 pm at L.S. Ayres Field.
