Haines Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Team

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Tyler Haines was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Team on Thursday as voted on and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The award honors student athletes for outstanding achievements in the classroom as well as on the playing field. In order to be eligible for this award, the athlete must possess a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale, be a sophomore or higher academically, participate in over half of the team’s competitions and play a key role in those games.

Haines was one of three linebackers to make the list and was joined on the first team by 23 other standout athletes from around the region.

The senior linebacker is set to graduate with a degree in integrated social studies and currently possesses a sparkling cumulative GPA of 3.46.

#6 LB Tyler Haines

Haines has been just as solid on the field this season and throughout his career with the Yellow Jackets and enters his final regular season game with 50 tackles, 13.5 hits for lost yardage, four sacks, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.

The honor was another in what is becoming a rather lengthy string of accolades given to Haines. Following his First-Team All-HCAC selection in 2005, the Piqua, Ohio, native was tabbed as a Football Gazette Preseason All-American and made the HCAC Players-to-Watch list heading into the 2006 campaign.

Haines will now be placed on the ballot for the Academic All-America. The voting for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Teams will be announced on Nov. 30.
