Haines Recognized by National Football Foundation

IRVING, Texas – Tyler Haines was recently inducted into the inaugural class of the National Football Foundation’s National Honor Society in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and on the playing field.

The NFF has been recognizing the finest student-athletes from all of intercollegiate football for the past 60 years, but is handing out this honor for the first time in its history. Haines was one of five Heartland Conference student-athletes to receive the honor among a group of 348 total players from 195 schools around the nation.

The honor is just the latest in a string of awards for Haines since completing his collegiate career with the Purple and Gold. Haines was recently named as DC’s Most Outstanding Male Athlete for the 2006-2007 athletic year on the heels of being named to the Football Gazette All-North Region Team, All-Heartland Conference First Team and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Team.

Haines was one of five HCAC athletes to be honored.
Haines was also named as the HCAC’s Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 2, 2006 and was tabbed as a Preseason All-American by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette.

The Piqua, Ohio, native ended the season ranking third in the Heartland Conference in tackles for lost yardage with 15 and sixth in the league with 5.5 sacks from his linebacker position.

Haines recently graduated from Defiance College with a degree in integrated social studies.
