Snyder Tabbed as HCAC Defensive Player of the Week

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Less than 36 hours after picking off a pair of passes and collecting a fumble in DC’s 10-0 victory over Adrian College on Saturday night, sophomore defensive back Keith Snyder was named as the Defensive Player of the Week in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Monday.

Snyder’s career night helped the Jackets post an impressive win over Adrian in its first-ever game inside the Multi-Sport Performance Stadium. The Martin, Mich., native posted 5.5 tackles and accounted for three of the five turnovers forced by the potent DC defensive unit. Snyder’s fumble recovery set up the lone touchdown of the night for the Purple and Gold, while his 68 return yards combined on the two interceptions helped to swing the battle of field position in DC’s favor.

Snyder set the tone early on for the Jackets, picking off a pass on AC’s third drive of the game and returning it 25 yards. Snyder then helped finish off the shutout by collecting a pair of turnovers in the fourth quarter. With DC holding to a slim 3-0 lead, Snyder set up the lone touchdown drive of the night for the Defiance by pouncing on an AC fumble at the Bulldogs’ own 35-yard line. After Defiance had turned that short field into seven points for a 10-0 lead, Snyder made yet another crucial play to prevent any hopes of a comeback. On Adrian’s very next possession, Snyder notched his second interception of the game and ran it back 43 yards to the Adrian 17-yard line.

The 10-0 victory has yielded some attention on the national level as the Yellow Jackets were mentioned on ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday night by ESPN college football analyst Mark May for blanking Adrian in the Bulldog’s home opener. DC is also featured in a poll question on D3football.com as an option for one of the biggest surprises of the week.

Snyder and the rest of the Jackets will be back in action this Saturday at 1:30 pm when they return to Coressel Stadium to host Tri-State University.
