WESTMONT, Ill. Defiance sophomore free safety, Keith Snyder, was selected as one of Don Hansen’s Football Gazette Players of the Week as announced by donhansen.com on Thursday morning for his efforts in DC’s 10-0 win over Adrian College.
Snyder played a major role in the Yellow Jackets’ shutout victory by picking off a pair of Bulldog passes for a total of 68 yards returned, recovering a fumble which led to an eventual Defiance touchdown and posting 5.5 total tackles.
The Football Gazette selected 12 players to its list of NCAA Division III National Players of the Week, with Snyder being the lone defensive player named.
The national honor is the third such award for Snyder in his career at Defiance, with the first two coming on the heels of DC’s 28-14 victory over Hanover on Oct. 15, 2005. In that contest, Snyder picked off three Hanover passes and racked up eight tackles en route to being named to the D3Football.com National Team of the Week and the Football Gazette Players of the Week list.
Snyder currently ranks 13th in the nation on the D-III level with 1.0 interceptions per game and has played a major role in helping the Purple & Gold hold its opposition to just 12.5 points per game so far in 2006. That mark ranks the Jacket defensive unit 59th in the nation in scoring defense.
Defiance (1-1) will host Tri-State (0-1) on Saturday at 1:30 pm inside Coressel Stadium.
