WEEK 3 GAME NOTES
Tri-State vs. Defiance
Sep. 16 – 1:30 pm – Coressel Stadium

This Week’s Game - Today marks the first-ever meeting between Tri-State and Defiance on the football field. The Yellow Jackets will be looking to follow up on an impressive 10-0 victory at Adrian while TSU is eyeing its first win of the year after falling to Manchester in its season opener.

Scouting Defiance - The Yellow Jackets are led on offense by the trio of Hans Vetter (QB), Jason Gendron (RB) and Luke Dillon (WR) but also feature Scooter Curtis (RB), Gary Allen (WR) and tight ends Tobias Toumi and Ricky Calverley. The Jackets are averaging 131 rushing yards and 107.5 passing yards per game through two contests in 2006.

Scouting Tri-State - The Thunder of Tri-State stumbled to an 0-1 start after coughing up a 10-7 halftime lead to suffer a narrow 26-22 loss against Manchester. Tri-State featured an explosive passing attack in the loss, putting up 248 passing yards, compared to just 69 yards on the ground. Freshman Levi Knach had an outstanding collegiate debut with 248 yards, two passing touchdowns and an efficiency rating of 128.58.

Raising Eyebrows - The national media has turned its eye towards the Defiance College Yellow Jackets after DC held Adrian scoreless to spoil AC’s first-ever game in its brand new football complex. Following the game, DC was mentioned on ESPN’s CollegeGameDay by Mark May and the Jackets were then featured by D3Football.com as one of the biggest stories of the week.

National Player of the Week - Keith Snyder anchored a terrific defensive effort by Defiance against Adrian and took home HCAC Player of the Week and Don Hansen’s Football Gazette National Player of the Week honors for his play. Snyder picked off a pair of passes and recovered a fumble to account for three of five turnovers forced by the DC defensive unit.

DC in the National Rankings - Following a shut-down defensive effort against Adrian last Saturday, the Jackets have moved up in several defensive categories. The Purple & Gold rank 42nd in the nation in rushing defense (61.0 ypg), 59th in scoring defense (12.5 ppg) and 72nd in total defense (231.5 ypg). A pair of Defiance DB’s are also in the rankings as Snyder is 13th in interceptions (1.0 ipg) and Jason Bushong is 26th with 2.0 passes defended per game.

Around the HCAC - The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference is off to a solid start in 2006 with Mount St. Joseph leading the way with a perfect 2-0 record a top-40 national ranking. Franklin (2-0) joins MSJ atop the league standings after scoring a surprising 45-38 overtime victory over No. 22 Wabash last Saturday. The league secured another impact victory last week as Defiance (1-1) blanked No. 39 Adrian on the road by a 10-0 margin.

What’s On Tap? - The Jackets close out the non-conference portion of the 2006 schedule this afternoon against Tri-State and will take a week off before diving into HCAC competition with a pair of road games against Manchester (9/30) and Rose-Hulman (10/7) before returning to Coressel Stadium for DC’s homecoming game against Anderson (10/14) at 1:30 pm.
