Tabacca said this about joining the DC family, “I am delighted to have been named the Offensive Line Coach here at Defiance College. I have already been impressed by the work ethic and character that Coach Taylor and his staff have instilled in our players.”
Prior to accepting the position at Ball State, Tabacca was a four-time letter winner with the Cardinals from 2000-2005, including the school’s 2001 MAC West Tri-Champion squad. The Columbus, Ohio, native excelled on and off the field with Ball State, earning an undergraduate degree in history in 2004, before completing his master’s degree in business administration in the summer of 2006. Tabacca graduated with a 3.4 grade-point average and was named to the Dean’s List on three separate occasions.
On the field, Tabacca spent time at the center, guard and tackle positions while anchoring the offensive line and was a team captain in 2004. The two-time Mid American Conference First Team All-Academic selection started 31 consecutive games at one point and helped pave the way to a single-season rushing record for Ball State.
Tabacca will look to bring that experience with him to the DC sidelines where he will oversee a Yellow Jacket offensive line which will lose four-of-five starters to graduation.
“The expectations for our offensive line will be high in the upcoming season,” Tabacca said. “Although we graduated most of our starters from last season, there is enough talent, enthusiasm and energy to make the 2007 group a good unit. We will be working hard throughout the spring and in fall camp to create a tough and cohesive unit that will be the foundation for everything we do offensively on Saturday’s in the fall.
Defiance ranked third in the Heartland Conference in 2006 in rushing offense. The Jackets averaged 134.8 yards per game on the ground and eclipsed the 100-yard barrier in all but two contests, including back-to-back efforts of over 200 yards in wins over Tri-State and Manchester.
Tabacca and his wife, Alyssa, are currently residing in Defiance.
