Defiance Football Garners Four Preseason All-America Honors

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College football team placed four players on the Don Hansen’s Football Gazette Preseason Honorable Mention All-America Team. Hans Vetter joined Luke Dillon on the offensive side of the ball, while Tyler Haines and Mike Haydon were selected for defense.

Vetter (Toledo, Ohio / Springfield HS) will be slated as the starting quarterback for the Yellow Jackets after taking over that roll midway through his freshman season. The Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year and first-team All-Conference selection led the league in pass efficiency rating with a mark of 130.1 while topping DC with 19 touchdowns and 1,403 total yards.

Dillon (Temperance, Mich. / Missouri Military HS) was named first-team All-HCAC after a standout sophomore campaign. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound receiver hauled in 43 catches for a team-leading 745 yards. Dillon also led all Yellow Jacket receivers by reaching pay dirt nine times and averaging 82.8 yards per game.

Haines (Piqua, Ohio / Piqua HS) is returning for his senior year and will look to continue terrorizing opposing offenses from his linebacker position in 2006. Haines piled up 47 tackles – 13.5 for a loss – and three sacks en route to earning first-team All-HCAC honors one year ago.

Haydon (Allen Park, Mich. / Allen Park HS) rounds out the list for the Purple & Gold after being tabbed as a first-team All-HCAC selection from his safety position in 2005. The senior will be counted on to help anchor the secondary after racking up 75 tackles and three interceptions during the 2005 season.

The Yellow Jackets will report to preseason camp on August 11, with their season opener slated for a September 2 (1:30 pm) showdown with Otterbein inside Coressel Stadium.
