Jackets beat up on Yeomen

OBERLIN, Ohio—The Defiance College Men’s Basketball team routed Oberlin College, 82-51, on Wednesday night in Oberlin, Ohio.

Sophomore forward Matt Muratori led the DC front court to a dominating performance against the host Yeomen. The Clyde, Ohio product led all scorers with 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor while also grabbing five rebounds. Fellow sophomores C.J. Johnson and Ryan Carthage added 16 and 11 points, respectively with Johnson distributing three assists.

The Jacket big men and the perimeter work of the guards held OC to 31% shooting from the floor and outrebounded the hosts 45-33. Senior Matt Laudick and freshman Anthony Pettaway contributed seven and six points and helped DC to a 38-24 scoring advantage in the paint.

Defiance led the entire game and went into the half with a commanding 47-19 edge.

The Yellow Jackets improve to 3-1 on the year (0-0 HCAC) will return to action when they host the Purple & Gold Financial Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

DC opens the tourney with an 8:00 p.m. match-up versus Indiana University- East after a 6:00 game between University of Cincinnati-Clermont and Bethel College (Ind.).

Saturday will pit the losers of Friday’s games in the consolation game at 1:00 p.m. before the championship game between the winners at 3:00 p.m.
