Second-half run buries Jackets at ONU

ADA, Ohio—The Defiance College Men’s Basketball squad drop a non-conference match-up, 55-82, at Ohio Northern University on Wednesday night.

Curt Croy paced the Jackets with 10 points, four rebounds and four assists. C.J. Johnson added nine points while tallying five assists and four boards. Anthony Pettaway, Matt Muratori and Anthony Jackson each chipped-in six points. The Polar Bears were led by Jared Bostleman’s 14 points.

First-half play was close as Croy knotted the score at 33-all with two free throws at the 1:09 mark. Two subsequent Greg Badenhop free throws gave the Bears a lead they would not relinquish as they built a double-digit advantage out of the halftime break. ONU outscored the Jackets 47-22 in the second stanza and coasted to the 27-point win.

DC was held to 38% shooting from the floor and 20% from behind the arc while the hosts hit at a 51% clip from the floor and 48% from long distance.

The Jackets fall to 5-2 on the year (0-0 HCAC), while Ohio Northern is now 6-0. The Jackets will next travel to Olivet College (Mich.) on Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off.
