Jackets downed by Lions

DEFIANCE, Ohio—The Defiance College Yellow Jackets were downed by the Mount St. Joseph Lions on Saturday afternoon, 54-68, at the Karl H. Weaner Center.

Matt Laudick led the Jackets with 14 points, while Bryan Post added 11. DC were out-rebounded 31-40 and gave up 15 offensive rebounds with 11 second-chance Lion points. Mount was led by Derrick Jones’ 16 points, while Kevin Darthard had 14 points and 11 rebounds in the post.

Hitting just 37% from the floor, 30% from the arc and 60% from the line, DC was unable to recover from a 22-6 Lion run to open the second half. Darthard was able to maneuver down-low against the Jacket frontcourt, scoring 11 of his points in the second stanza.

The Mount was able to maintain its double-digit lead from there on out to improve to 13-8 on the season and 6-4 in the Heartland Conference.

The Jackets are now 8-12 on the year and 1-9 in the HCAC.

DC will next travel to Anderson on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off with the Ravens.
