| GREENWOOD, Ind. Anthony Pettaway was named as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Month for February, marking the second-straight monthly honor for the sophomore center and third straight for Defiance after Nick Sales claimed the award for December.
Pettaway led the Yellow Jackets to their first HCAC Tournament finals appearance since the 2000-01 season and was named to the Heartland Conference All-Tournament Team after averaging 17.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in DC’s four February victories.
For the month, the Toledo, Ohio, native converted on 66.2 percent of his shots from the floor while netting 16.6 points and 7.3 rebounds a night. Pettaway cracked double figures in the scoring column in all but one contest in February, including a pair of 20-plus point efforts and two double-doubles.

| double games. Pettaway ended the season as the only player in the league to rank among the top five in points and rebounds in the HCAC and will enter his junior season with the fourth-highest career shooting percentage in DC’s history.
Defiance ended the 2006-07 campaign with 17 victories, marking an eight-game upswing from one year ago. The Yellow Jackets also achieved the best turnaround in the HCAC, improving from two to nine wins in league play.
The HCAC Athlete-of-the-Month award is in its second year of existence. The award is voted on by sports information directors of each member institution.
