Pettaway Nets HCAC Player-of-the-Week Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. - Anthony Pettaway was named the player of the week in the Heartland Conference after registering a pair of double-doubles and averaging 19.0 points and 11.5 rebounds while shooting at a 61.5 percent clip from the floor. His efforts helped Defiance grab early control of the top spot in the HCAC standings with victories over Manchester and Anderson in the first week of league action.

Pettaway sank seven-of-12 shots from the floor for 14 points and also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds in 29 minutes of action to help lead Defiance to a 64-48 win over Manchester on Wednesday.

The six-foot, eight-inch, sophomore center followed that up with a 24-point, 12-board effort on Saturday as the Jackets outscored Anderson by a 38-20 margin in the paint en route to securing the 62-60 road victory over the Ravens. Along with posting new career highs in points and rebounds, Pettaway added two blocks, one steal and shot nine-of-14 from the field while draining all five attempts from the charity stripe.

Pettaway is averaging 16.8 points and 8.0 rebounds.

For the week, Pettaway averaged 19.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 1.0 blocks, 1.0 assists and 0.5 steals while shooting at a 61.5 percent clip from the floor and 83.3 percent from the free throw line.

The Toledo, Ohio, native has cracked double figures in scoring in each of DC’s five games and is currently the only player in the HCAC to rank in the top five in the league in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.

Pettaway and the Jackets will face one of their stiffest tests to date when they travel to Founders Hall to take on Bluffton (6-1, 1-0) on Wednesday night at 7:30 pm.
