Pettaway Tabbed as NABC All-American

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The National Association of Basketball Coaches recently named Defiance College’s Anthony Pettaway to the 2008 State Farm Division III All-America team. Pettaway was selected by member coaches of the NABC after being named First-Team All-Midwest District one week ago.

Pettaway has raked in the postseason honors after averaging 15.7 points and 8.0 rebounds a night, while leading Defiance to a 19-8 record and the HCAC regular season championship. Pettaway’s Third-Team All-American honor comes after the junior center garnered NABC All-Midwest District and D3hoops.com All-Midwest Region.

The HCAC Player of the Year piled up 11 double-double performances during the 2007-2008 season and was nearly unstoppable in the paint over DC’s final nine games. Pettaway led the Jackets in scoring and rebounding in eight of those games, while averaging 22.1 points and 10.3 boards a night. Pettaway passed the 400-point barrier for the second-straight season and became the 42nd player in DC history to eclipse 1,000 points for a career, ending his junior season with 423 points and 1,024 for his career.

Pettaway is the 22nd All-American in DC history.

Pettaway is the third Defiance College student-athlete to receive All-America honors this year, following football’s Luke Dillon and track and field’s Trevor Matuszak. Pettaway is also the 22nd All-American in the history of the men’s basketball program.
