Pettaway Named as Preseason All-American

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College’s Anthony Pettaway has been tabbed as one of 25 NCAA D-III preseason All-Americans as announced by Basketball Times. Pettaway was the lone representative from the Heartland Conference to make the list.

Pettaway led the Yellow Jackets to a 17-9 record and an appearance in the HCAC championship game en route to being named All-HCAC as a sophomore. The rising junior was recently selected as a Preseason Player to Watch in the conference and is an early candidate for Player of the Year honors in the HCAC.

Pettaway had a breakout season one year ago and developed into one of the most dangerous post players in the conference. The six-foot, eight-inch center started every game for the Jackets and averaged 16.3 points and 7.4 rebounds a night, while connecting at a 58.7-percent clip from the floor.

The Toledo, Ohio native scored double figures in all but two games as a sophomore, topped the 20-point barrier seven times and posted eight double-double performances. Pettaway was named the HCAC Male Athlete of the Month in January and February, earned a spot on the Purple and Gold Financial Classic and HCAC All-Tournament Teams and ended the year as the only player in the HCAC to rank among the top five players in the league in scoring and rebounding.

Pettaway and DC will open the 2007-08 season on Nov. 16.
Pettaway and Defiance will get the 2007-2008 season underway in less than two weeks. The Jackets will take on Wilmington on Nov. 16 in the first game of the Thomas More Tip-Off Classic.
