| DEFIANCE, Ohio The 2006-2007 men’s basketball season will officially get underway on Friday inside the Weaner Community Center as Defiance hosts the 32nd Annual Purple and Gold Financial Classic starting at 6:00 pm.
The opening game will feature fellow HCAC foe, Anderson University taking on the Wilmington College Quakers out of the Ohio Athletic Conference. DC will then take on the Saints of Thomas More in an 8:00 pm tip.
The second day of the classic will pit Thomas More against Anderson at 1:30 pm before the Yellow Jackets round out the two-day event with a 7:30 pm start against Wilmington.
The Jackets will feature plenty of new faces this season as 16 freshmen have joined 10 returning players to form this year’s squad. The Heartland Conference named Anthony Jackson, C.J. Johnson, Matt Muratori, Anthony Pettaway and Bryan Post to its Players-to-Watch list. Those five will headline the returning group and will be joined by Cody Anderson, Jarret Ensign, Andy Gerschutz, Joe Nowak and Frank Washington.

| Highlighting the new faces for 2006-2007 will be Mike Floyd, Eric Stolly, Heath Armstrong, Brent Papenfuss, Nate Conley, Nick Sales and Kasey Bodenbender.
Defiance has won four-straight games in the Purple and Gold Classic, including tournament championships in 2004 and 2005.
The Yellow Jackets lost their season-opener to Wilmington last season by a 74-61 count, but hold a 76-34 edge in the all-time series between the two schools. DC won 81-63 in its meeting with Thomas More last season and has won 18-of-27 all-time meetings between the two programs on the hardwood.
