GREENWOOD, Ind. – Nick Sales added to a recent string of honors by being selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Month for December. The freshman forward helped DC to a 6-1 overall record in December, including the Case Western Holiday Tournament Championship.

Sales shot 73 percent from the floor while averaging a double-double with 15.7 points and 10.1 rebounds per night over DC’s seven games and added 1.0 steals and 0.9 blocks.

The standout freshman posted three double-doubles and was named as the MVP of the Case Western Holiday Tournament as well as the HCAC Player of the Week after posting 19.5 points, 10.5 boards and 1.5 steals while hitting 18-of-22 shots in DC’s two tournament victories.

Sales pulled down eight or more rebounds in all seven December contests and cracked double figures in scoring in all but one.

Sales averaged 15.7 points and 10.1 rebounds in December.
The Barberton, Ohio, native ended the month ranked in the top five in the HCAC in field goal percentage, rebounds and blocks.

The HCAC Athlete of the Month award is in its second year of existence and is voted on by the sports information directors of each conference institution. Sales is the first male athlete to claim the honor for Defiance and the second Yellow Jacket to win the award. Meghann Savard took home the honor for the month of December one year ago after she averaged 20.8 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
