Laudick and Johnson named All-HCAC

DEFIANCE, Ohio— Defiance College’s Matt Laudick and C.J. Johnson have been named to the honorable-mention All-Heartland Conference team for men’s basketball as voted on by the league coaches.

Johnson, a sophomore point guard from Toledo, earned honorable-mention recognition for the season-straight season. Last year’s conference “Freshman of the Year” averaged 13.2 points-per-game and 3.1 rebounds, while leading the Jackets with 2.88 assists-per-game during the 05-06 season. The St. Francis DeSales graduate has totaled 628 points, 154 assists and is shooting 83% from the free-throw line on his career, ranking second all-time at DC.

Laudick, a senior from Ottawa, Ohio, earned his first appearance on the All-HCAC team after hitting for 10.5 points-per-game and 3.4 rebounds on the season and 13.1 points and 4.0 boards in conference games. In his four-year career, Laudick totaled 813 points and 373 rebounds. His 60 career blocks rank second on the all-time DC list.

The Yellow Jackets ended the 05-06 season with a 9-16 mark overall and a 2-12 record in the HCAC. Defiance will open the 2006-07 regular season when they host the Purple & Gold Financial Classic on November 17 and 18.
