Defiance 63 - Anderson 75

ANDERSON, Ind. – The Defiance College Yellow Jackets fell at Anderson University on Wednesday night, 63-75.

Curt Croy scored a game-high 19 points and brought down eight rebounds for DC. Brett Hammons was next with 14 points, while C.J. Johnson and Trent Meyer added 10 points apiece. Matt Voland hauled down 10 boards in a losing cause, while also scoring eight. The Jackets were outshot at the free-throw line 2-for-7 to 15-for-22 and were unable to overcome 20 turnovers and being outrebounded 39-44.

The teams went to the half tied at 35-35 after an eight-point first half from Croy that included a lay-up at the 13-minute mark that knotted the score at 19 apiece. The Ravens countered, earning a four-point lead before triples by Johnson and Meyer brought the score back to even, just before the first-half horn sounded.

The Ravens outscored DC 24-16 in the first 10-minutes of the second half and pushed the lead to double digits when Cory Lyons hit the first of two free throws to make the count 64-54 with 8:27 remaining. AU ended the game with a 10-2 run in the final five-and-a-half minutes with Hammons adding the final Jacket score on a lay up with 2:28 to go.

The Jackets shot just 42% from the floor, 36% from the line and 29% from behind the arc. The Ravens hit just 42% of their shots, but connected when it counted at the line to earn the win.

The Jackets fall to 7-8 on the season with a 0-5 mark in the HCAC. The Ravens are 8-8 with the win and 1-4 in the Heartland Conference.

Things do not get any easier as the Jackets travel to #13 Hanover College on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
