Croy named All-HCAC, Johnson ‘Freshman of the Year’
DEFIANCE, OhioDefiance College’s Curt Croy and C.J. Johnson have been named members of the All-HCAC men’s basketball team as voted on by the league’s coaches.
Croy, a 5-11 junior guard, was named to the squad after ranking fourth in the conference with 17.0 points-per-game. The Ottawa, Ohio native led the conference the three-pointers made per-game with 2.96. He shot 41% from beyond the arc and also ranked in the HCAC Top-10 with an 80% free-throw percentage.
Johnson, a 5-10 freshman, was named the conference’s “Freshman of the Year” and to the honorable-mention squad for his steady play all season at the point for DC. The DeSales graduate scored 11.5 points per game and ranked second in the conference in free-throw shooting at 85%. Johnson also averaged 3.6 assists-per-game, and tied an Heartland Conference single-game record with 14 versus Anderson on February 9th.
Bluffton’s Scott Bergman was named the HCAC ‘Player of the Year’, while Transylvania head coach Brain Lane was named ‘Coach of the Year’.
The Jackets ended the 04-05 season with a 10-16 record and a 3-11 HCAC mark.
