Miller Announces Resignation as Men's Basketball Coach

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College and Jon Miller announced on Friday evening that he has stepped down as the men’s basketball head coach in order to accept the same position at Hanover College.

Miller will end his five-year tenure with Defiance as the fourth-winningest coach in program history, with 67 victories to his credit. This past season was Miller’s finest, as he led the Yellow Jackets to a 19-8 record and the team’s first outright conference championship since 1993-94.

The accomplishment earned national attention following the season, as Miller was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, as well as the National Association of Basketball Coaches Midwest District Coach of the Year.

Miller will return to his alma mater, where he graduated in 1997. Miller then served as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Hanover College from 2001-2003 prior to accepting the head coaching position at Defiance.

Miller earned 67 wins during his five years at Defiance.

“I truly want to thank President Wood and Dr. Kaiser for the opportunity they offered me to become the head basketball coach at Defiance five years ago,” Miller said. “The college and surrounding community have been tremendous to my family and I, and the support that I have received as we built the program here has truly been appreciated. I will always be grateful for the hard work and effort put forth by all of our players and assistant coaches”

Miller went on to add, “Hanover has a special place in my heart as my alma mater and it would have taken a special place to pull me away from the group of guys currently playing ball here at DC. There is no doubt that the combination of returning players and new recruits makes the future of the program very exciting here at Defiance.”

DC’s search for its new men’s basketball head coach will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
