Men's Hoops Moves into Tie Atop HCAC with Key Win

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Defiance College men’s basketball team scored a vital Heartland Conference win on Saturday as the Jackets completed the season sweep of Rose-Hulman and moved into a three-way tie atop the HCAC with a 61-52 victory over the Engineers.

The Yellow Jackets utilized a total team effort to get past a scrappy Rose-Hulman squad, as four players scored nine or more points and 10 netted at least three points in the win. DC also relied on solid ball movement and assisted 16 of 24 made hoops.

Anthony Jackson continued his strong play of late, extending his streak of consecutive games with a made three to eight-straight contests by canning a pair from beyond the arc to lead DC with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Bryan Post also stepped up to contribute nine points, two steals, two assists and three rebounds in 20 valuable minutes off the bench. Anthony Pettaway and Mike Floyd chipped in nine points each and Nick Sales and C.J. Johnson each scored six.

Jackson sparked DC with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Defiance is now locked into a three-way tie atop the Heartland Conference standings with Bluffton and Franklin as all three teams possess a 9-5 mark in league action.

The league-leading trio is closely followed by Transylvania, Hanover and Mount St. Joseph, as those three are all gridlocked with 8-6 records in the conference.

DC (16-6, 9-5 HCAC) will look to take another major step towards clinching a spot in the HCAC Tournament and a potential league championship on Wednesday when it plays at Franklin (14-9, 9-5 HCAC) at 7:30 pm.
