Jackets fall at Transylvania, 76-86

--Lexington, Ky.—The Defiance College men’s basketball team dropped their conference opener, 76-86, at Transylvania on Wednesday night.

Curt Croy led the Jackets with 18 points, while Matt Voland and Brett Hammons added 13 points and six rebounds apiece. The Jackets led 39-29 at the half before giving up 57 points to the Pioneers in the second half. Joey Searle led TU with 23 points and 11 boards.

Transy used a huge disparity at the free-throw line to eventually grab the edge in the game. The Pioneers went 24-of-29 from the line, while the Jackets shot just eight and converted only two.

DC held the 10-point half time lead after Croy hit a triple with 46 seconds remaining in the first half. Transy, however, outscored Defiance 13-2 to start the second half and never looked back. The Pioneers shot 68% from the floor in the second period and hit 60% of the second-half three-point attempts.

The Jackets sit at 7-5 (0-1 HCAC) on the year and will next host Franklin College at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
