Men's Golf Opens Season at Anderson Invitational

ANDERSON, Ind. – The 2008 men’s golf season got underway this weekend, with the Yellow Jackets competing in the two-day Anderson Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. Defiance improved by nine strokes on its second-day total and ended in eighth place in the team standings, just nine shots out of a top-five finish.

Jace Neal led the way in his first spring tournament at Defiance College. The Defiance High product fired a 79 on Saturday to tie for the second-lowest score through one round. Neal cooled on Sunday, carding an 86 and ending in 19th place in the nine-team event.

Craig Holman was next in the individual standings for the Jackets, as his two-day score of 169 put him in 26th. Josh Calame was next with a 36th-place finish and was followed by Cody Anderson and Aaron Konold in a tie for 43rd.

Neal led Defiance with rounds of 79 and 86 and a 19th-place finish.

Franklin College won the team championship with a total score of 641 and was led by the top individual performer. Justin Ridge claimed the individual title with a 158.

Defiance will be back on the links next weekend, when its plays in the Mount St. Joseph Invitational on April 5 and 6.
