Konold Leads Jackets at Defiance Invitational

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Freshman Aaron Konold tied for 10th place in Wednesday’s seven team Defiance College Invitational at Kettenring Country Club. Konold carded a one-round score of 79 to lead DC to a fifth-place team finish.

Defiance was in the mix for the team championship, finishing just 14 strokes off the pace set by Ohio Northern who took the team title with a 315. Indiana Tech took second with a 316 and Tri-State ended third with a 318, while Ohio Dominican (319) and Defiance (329) rounded out the tournament’s top five. Rochester ended sixth with a total score of 332 and Central State University competed but did not record a team score after one of its competitors was disqualified.

Ohio Dominican’s Todd Suman competed as an individual and earned medalist honors with a 74. Four other golfers ended the afternoon with a 76 to tie for second.

Konold’s top-10 finish paced Defiance, while Cody Anderson turned in a top-20 outing with his 82. Jace Neal and Craig Holman tied for 25th with an 84 and Josh Calame carded an 86 to end in 29th. Greg Vogt competed as an individual and took 33rd with a 93.

Defiance will compete in the Manchester Invitational on Saturday before hosting its second event of the spring season. The Jackets will host the DC Spring Fling on Tuesday, April 15 at 1:30 pm.
