Men's Golf Hosts DC Fall Invitational

Defiance College Invitational Results

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men’s golf team hosted a seven-team fall tournament on Sunday at Kettenring Country Club. The Yellow Jackets finished six, with the top six lineups being separated by only 17 strokes in the single-round event.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Aaron Konold’s 77 and seventh-place finish, while Craig Holman’s 80 gave DC a pair of golfers among the top 15. Josh Calame fired an 84 to finish 26th and Jace Neal tied with Cody Anderson in 31st after carding an 85.

“Overall I was somewhat disappointed in our team score, as we had several players take big scores on a couple of holes,” assistant coach Dick Kaiser said. “If we could eliminate taking doubles, triples or even worse, we have a chance to be very competitive.”

Holman's round of 80 was good for a top-15 finish.

Kaiser also stated that he was very pleased with the play of Konold and also added, “On a positive note, we were only 17 shots out of the lead which is the closest we have been since we restarted the program. If we can get four solid rounds at one time, we could be in the thick of the conference race come spring season.”

The team championship was won by a 309 recorded by the University of Findlay’s ‘B’ roster. Albion and Ohio Northern each posted a 313 to tie for second, with Olivet (317) and Ohio Northern ‘B’ (318) rounding out the top five teams. Defiance placed sixth with a 326 and Siena Heights took seventh with a 338.

ONU’s Tom Repciky won the individual title with a 71 and Findlay’s Thomas Leidy ended two strokes back to finish second. ONU’s Wes Immler ended third with a 75.

Defiance will play on Wednesday at Ohio Northern and again on Friday at Tri-State.
