DC Ends Season with Fourth Round at HCAC Tournament
HCAC Championship Final Results
ANDERSON, Ind. Defiance turned in another strong round of golf with a 338 on the fourth and final day of the 2007 Heartland Conference Tournament on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets ended with a four-round total of 1410 and finished in eighth place.
DC showed marked improvement throughout the season and continued the trend during the HCAC Championship. The Jackets opened with a 375 before improving with scores of 365, 332 and 338 in the final three rounds.
Cody Anderson was DC’s top performer, rebounding from a rocky opening round to climb the standings to a 14th-place finish. Anderson followed up an 87 with scores of 80, 80 and 81 and flirted with a top-10 finish over the tournament’s final weekend.
Craig Holman struggled through the first two rounds, carding a 185 total before storming back with a 157 on the second weekend to finish in 26th position. Greg Vogt finished 36th, while Ryan Slone and Ryan Gladieux tied for 37th.
Transylvania won the team championship by 32 strokes with a four-round total of 1211 and Franklin finished second. Manchester, Rose-Hulman and Anderson rounded out the top five, with Hanover, Mount St. Joseph and Defiance filling out the standings.
Franklin’s Justin Ridge led throughout the tournament and won the individual championship with a 297. Transy’s Matt Scott made things close by shaving 10 strokes off Ridge’s lead in the final two rounds, but ended one shot back in second place.
The HCAC Tournament brings DC’s 2007 campaign to a close. The season was the first for the Yellow Jackets after restarting the program at the beginning of the 2006-2007 academic year.
