Yellow Jackets Take Fifth at MSJ Invite

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Defiance College had all five of its golfers place in the top 25 of the individual standings at the Mount St. Joseph Invitational and ended fifth as a team. The Yellow Jackets were just eight shots shy of a top-three finish in the six-team event which was played on Saturday and Sunday.

Defiance shaved 21 strokes off of its opening round score with a 339 on Sunday. The 339 was the third-best total of the day and fourth-best round of the tournament. The improvement was across the board for the Jackets, as four of its five competitors lowered their scores on day two.

The talented freshmen trio led the way for DC as Aaron Konold, Josh Calame and Jace Neal were the Jackets’ top three finishers. Konold fired a 171 to tie for 11th, while Calame’s 172 was good for 14th and Neal ended 24th with his 182. Craig Holman and Cody Anderson each carded a 184 and finished in a tie for 25th.

Konold ended two shots out of the top 10 at the MSJ Invitational.

Franklin won the team title after posting a 327 in each round, and the Grizzlies’ Justin Ridge turned in the top individual score with a 157.

Anderson finished 26 shots back of Franklin for second and was followed in the standings by Rose-Hulman (691), MSJ (692), Defiance (699) and Wilmington (704).

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Wednesday when they host the DC Invitational. The tournament will be held at Kettenring Country Club in Defiance, Ohio, and will begin at 1:30 pm.
