DC Golf Competes at Jon Spiess Memorial Invite
WAUSEON, Ohio The Defiance College golf season got underway on Monday afternoon as both the men’s and women’s squads hit the links for the 11th-annual Jon Spiess Memorial Invitational. Jace Neal led the men and was named All-Tournament, while Tracy Sauter turned in the top score for the Lady Jackets.
The women’s team event was won by Findlay’s ‘A’ team, which shot a 331 and edged its ‘B’ lineup by eight strokes. Urbana and Defiance rounded out the team standings.
Findlay also swept the individual medalists as Andrea Vogt won the event with an 81, and Alyssa Nigro tied Amanda Rutan for second with an 82.
Sauter paced DC with a 105, while Kelci Wunderlich and Shay Robison rounded out the top three for the Jackets.
The Lady Jackets will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday at the St. Francis Invite.
The men’s event was won by Huntington’s 290, with Taylor (294), Spring Arbor (296), Olivet (300) and Findlay (301) rounding out the top five team scores. Tri-State took sixth (306) and eight (319), Defiance (315) ended seventh and Siena Heights (322) finished ninth.
The Jackets were led by Neal’s 73 and Craig Holman’s single-round total of 78.
