| Dick Kaiser is in his ninth year as the Athletic Director at Defiance College and was named as a 2006-2007 NACDA Athletic Director of the Year. Kaiser has also been appointed as the Chair of the D-III National Championship Football Committee through 2009. During his tenure at DC, he has initiated several new projects within the department. Most recently, Defiance College added the state-of-the-art SMART Fitness Center with Kaiser as one of the project’s driving forces.
Prior to coming to Defiance, Kaiser spent four years as the Athletic Director at Olivet College. The Comets made strides, becoming more competitive within the MIAA in athletics as well as academics. He was instrumental in securing the NCAA Division III Golf Championship, which Olivet hosted in the spring of 2000. A new 22,500 square-foot locker room facility was designed by Kaiser and opened the fall of 2000.
He has served as the chief athletic administrator at a variety of institutions throughout his 35-year career in collegiate athletics. He served as the interim director at perennial football power Western State College of Colorado for the 1993-1994 academic year and was the Athletic Director/Department Chair at Western Oregon University for five years (1988-1993).
From 1983-1988, Kaiser completed stints as both Athletic Director and Defensive Coordinator for the football team at Willamette University in Salem, Ore.
Kaiser earned a national championship ring as the defensive coordinator for Idaho State University. From 1980-1983, he helped turn around the program, as the Bengals captured the 1981 NCAA Division I-AA national crown. Previously, he served as the outside linebackers coach at Brigham Young University for the 1979-1980 season.
From 1977 to 1979, Kaiser worked with Southwest Oklahoma Football, advancing to the national championship game in 1977.
From 1975-1976, Kaiser was the defensive coordinator and head baseball coach at Dodge City Community College, Kansas.
Dr. Kaiser, a Boulder, Colo. native, achieved his undergraduate degree in health and physical education at the University of Northern Colorado in 1972 and his master’s degree in educational leadership at South Dakota State University in 1975. He completed his doctorate in athletic administration from BYU in 1981.
He and his wife Diane join together a family of four adult children, Cassie, Ryan, Amy, and Emily. Kaiser and his wife reside in Defiance.
