Bluffton at Defiance Box Score
DEFIANCE, Ohio The Defiance College Men’s Soccer team seems to have found its offensive stroke as the Jackets put up a four-spot for the second straight game in a 4-2 win over HCAC rival Bluffton University.
Daniel Meehan got things started for DC in the 23rd minute with his first goal of the year on a breakaway off of a stolen pass. Michael Bell would add another goal in the 30th minute, on a breakaway before faking out the keeper for the easy score. Things looked good for DC until a penalty kick by Nate Flath in the 37th minute put the Beavers on the scoreboard. Flath would later tie the game with 52 seconds left in the half.
Entering the second half tied at two, both teams played neck and neck until Benji Hughes gave the Yellow Jackets the lead in the 64th minute with a goal to the right corner. Bluffton made things interesting throughout the remainder of the half, keeping the pressure on the DC defense when Hughes gave Defiance an insurance goal with two minutes to play in the game.
Hughes’s two goals were his third and fourth of the season, while Bell’s goal was his second of the year. Brandon Morgan gained his third victory of the season, making four saves in the game.
Defiance (3-8-0, 2-1-0 HCAC) will continue its five-game homestand on Saturday when the Jackets host Transylvania University at 3:00 p.m.
