Slow First Half Does in Yellow Jackets
Capital at Defiance Box Score
DEFIANCE, Ohio Three goals in the opening 22 minutes of action were too much for the Yellow Jackets to overcome on Thursday as the early scoring barrage lifted Capital to a 4-1 victory over Defiance in men’s soccer.
Capital jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as Nate Kish headed in a cross from Heath Oberle at the 7:53 mark before Steven McCarthy made it a 3-0 margin with a pair of unassisted goals in the 21st and 22nd minutes.
The Crusaders tacked on their final goal of the half when Matt Mutlu found the back of the net to push it to a 4-0 spread at the half.
Defiance settled down in the second half and managed to cut it to 4-1 on a score from Benji Hughes at the 83:25 mark, but it was too little and too late as the Jackets fell to 1-8-0 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets will get back into HCAC play on Saturday when they host Mount St. Joseph at 3:00 pm.
