Cornell Earns Weekly HCAC Honors for Five-Goal Performance

GREENWOOD, Ind. - Anthony Cornell scored five goals and tacked on an assist in Defiance’ s 9-0 win over Taylor-Fort Wayne and has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week. He is the first Yellow Jacket to receive the honor this season.

The Carroll, Ohio native, who ranks eighth in the HCAC in goals per game, now has the HCAC’s highest single-game output this season in both goals (5) and points (11). After scoring his first goal late in the first half Cornell had his way with the Falcon’s defense in the second half, scorching the nets for four goals during the period. Most of that damage was done over a seven minute period that saw the forward score three consecutive goals.

The HCAC weekly honors are nominated by Sports Information Directors from each league institution and announced by the league office.

Defiance is 3-10-1 overall and 2-3-1 in HCAC play this season with games against HCAC foes Manchester and Anderson remaining.
