--DEFIANCE, Ohio.--The Defiance College men’s soccer team gains another Heartland Conference victory with a 6-0 rout over Franklin College on Saturday afternoon.
On Senior Day where Defiance honored its four-year players, four of the six Yellow Jacket goals were scored by seniors, including Joe DiSalvio, who scored the first goal of the game four minutes into the first half. Ryan Rothermel and and Chris Berg added a goal apiece at the 19th and 38th minute, respectively. Kevin Tanceusz and Jared Gray both scored in the second half, while Chris Berg had the last DC goal of the game in the 79th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Jeff Meyer notched a shutout in his last home game, saving four shots. This game serves as his second shutout of the season. The other came against Hanover College on October 8, also a 6-0 victory.
Defiance played with a relentless offensive attack, proving to be the aggressors the entire game, as evidenced by the discrepancy in shots, as DC put 15 shots on goal compared to Franklin's four. Although Defiance was penalized frequently on offsides calls, tallying nine for game, their continued pursuit of the ball was rewarded, as they tied a season-high in goals scored.
The win moves the Jackets' record to 4-10-0, with a 2-3-0 record in the HCAC. They next travel to play conference rival Bluffton College on Wednesday, October 26 at 3:30 pm.
