Jacket Men’s Soccer also in first with win over Hanover
--Hanover, Ind.The Yellow Jacket soccer team defeated Hanover College 3-1 in Hanover, Indiana on Saturday afternoon.
Aaron Riley led DC with a goal and an assist, while Joel Wilkins and Branden Able each added a goal for the Jackets. Kevin Tanceusz also had an assist on the afternoon, while the only Panther goal came on a first-half penalty kick. Joe DiSalvio played all 90 minutes in goal, stopping five shots.
The Jackets outshot HC 15 to six and were called for 13 fouls compared to the Panther’s 16. In a rough, back-and-forth game, there were seven cards administered with two double-yellow cards called, warranting two ejections.
Riley’s goal came in the third minute on a Tanceusz assist. Joel Wilkins gave DC a commanding 2-0 lead with on a penalty kick in the 15th minute. HC got on the board with the converted penalty kick before the halftime break.
Putting the game out of reach in the 50th minute, Riley dribbled up the left side, past several Panthers and laid back a pass to Able eight-yards out. The sophomore kept his composure and shot far-post, past the Panther goalkeeper to make the score 3-1 and give the Jackets the win.
The Jackets climb to 7-5-2 on the year with a league-leading 3-0 mark in the HCAC. DC hosts Anderson on Wednesday at Winsper-Knobel Field.
