DC Men Fall to Medaille 6-0 in Opener

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College Men’s Soccer team fell to Medaille College, 6-0, in its opening game of the 2007 season.

The Yellow Jackets could not capitalize on early counter-attacks as shots by Chris Kessler(Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington) and Benji Hughes (Camden, Ohio/Preble Shawnee) were knocked away. After thirty plus minutes of scoreless play, Medaille would draw first blood in the match as Josh Meier would score on a cross from Mike Antkowiak. The Mavericks continued to put pressure on the DC defense, finishing the first half with a 4-0 advantage. Medaille would then add two more to its total in the second half on its way to a 6-0 victory.

The Jackets had six shots on goal, including two apiece from Hughes and Gregory Vogt(Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North). Senior keeper Brandon Morgan (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) finished the game with five saves, as well as breaking up several dangerous crosses by Medaille.

The opening loss gives DC a 0-1 record heading into the closing contest of the Defiance Classic as the Yellow Jackets will face the Bison of Bethany College on Sunday, September 2, 2007. Kick-off is slotted for 3:00 p.m.
