--CINCINNATI, OhioThe Defiance College men’s soccer team go out on top, as the Jackets shut out the Lions of Mount St. Joseph by a score of 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first when Joel Wilkins scored off of a penalty kick to make it 1-0 in favor of DC in the 13th minute. Almost 10 minutes later, Benji Hughes added another goal off of a Jared Gray assist to put the Jackets up by two. Gray later scored a goal of his own in the 28th minute to put DC up by three in the first half. Gray was not done though, as he connected on another kick off of a Kevin Tanceusz assist fifty seconds into the second half to put DC up 4-0 for good.
Jeff Meyer had two saves in goal for DC, shutting out his third opponent of the season. The Jackets played much more aggressive offensively than the Lions, as evidenced DC's 36 shots (25 SOG) compared to Mount's eight (2 SOG). DC also outkicked Mount on the corner 4-1, but the two teams were even in fouls at eight apiece.
The Jackets end the season 6-10-0 and enter the HCAC Tournament as the #4 seed. They will face the #1 seed, Transylvania University, on November 1st.
