Jacket Soccer downs Yeomen

OBERLIN, Ohio—The Defiance College men’s soccer team got its first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Oberlin College on Sunday afternoon at the Oberlin Tournament.

Benji Hughes and Karl Eustache scored for DC, with Hughes’ score tying the game in the 43rd minute, and Eustache’s winning the game in the 88th minute off a Joe DiSalvio assist. Jeff Meyer had 12 saves and allowed the only OC score on a David Wilson penalty kick in the 25th minute.

The Jackets earned the win despite being outshot 10-12 and having fewer corner kicks, 2-7.

Defiance will next travel to the Ohio Northern Tournament on Friday and Saturday for 3:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. games against Heidelberg and Ohio Northern, respectively.

The Student Princes and the Polar Bears are both 1-1-0. Heidelberg won 1-0 at Olivet on Saturday and fell 1-4 at Albion on Sunday afternoon. ONU traveled to the Roanoke Tournament in Virginia this past weekend where they came from behind to beat Richard Stockton, 3-2 and then lost to Roanoke, 0-2, on Sunday afternoon.
