DC Picked to Finish Sixth in HCAC Preseason Poll

GREENWOOD, Ind.— The Defiance College Men’s Soccer Team received 41 points on its way to a sixth place ranking in the HCAC Preseason Poll. The Jackets finished only eight points behind fourth place Anderson, while Transylvania was picked to win its third-straight title with Rose-Hulman and Manchester rounding out the top three.

Last season DC overcame a 1-8 start, finishing hot by going 5-3-1 over the last nine games to earn its fifth consecutive berth in the HCAC tournament. Despite losing its top two scorers from a year ago, the Yellow Jackets return a solid core of veterans including two all-conference performers, seniors Benji Hughes (Camden, OH / Preble Shawnee) and Craig Burke (Reynoldsburg, OH / St. Charles Preperatory).

Hughes, an All-HCAC Second Team selection in 2006, will look to continue where he left off last season after scoring five goals in only ten games. Burke, another All-HCAC Second Team choice, headlines an experienced defense returning for the Yellow Jackets.

Senior forward Michael Bell (Rossford, OH / Rossford), a HCAC Player to Watch, returns as well for Defiance after scoring four goals in ’06. including his game-winner against Rochester College. Freshman Chris Kessler (Canal Winchester / Canal Winchester) also expects to make an immediate impact for DC, after garnering All-District honors at Canal Winchester.

Defiance will open the 2007 season at home when they host Medaille in the opening game of the Defiance Classic on Friday, August 31, 2007 at 5:00 p.m.
