Bell’s Goal Holds Up as DC Edges Rochester

Rochester at Defiance Box Score

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College men’s soccer team bounced back from a season-opening loss on Saturday, notching its first win of the Alden Lawrence era with a 1-0 victory over Rochester College.

Both sides missed on several solid scoring chances throughout the game, as just one of a combined 16 shots found the back of the net.

DC’s best looks of the first half came off the foot of Karl Eustache. The junior striker’s first attempt came with just over 12 minutes to play in the opening half when he fired a shot inches wide of the right post. One minute later Eustache collected a bouncer at the top of the box and laced it just high of the crossbar.

The Yellow Jackets finally broke into the scoring column at the 49:58 mark when Michael Bell gathered a free ball in front of the net and chipped it over the outstretched RC keeper for the eventual game winner.

The DC defense made the lone goal hold up over the game’s final 40 minutes of action as Brandon Morgan had three saves between the posts and the DC back line deflected a pair of Rochester shots.

The Jackets (1-1) will have little time to rest as they will play at Tri-State on Tuesday at 4:00 pm.
