DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College men’s soccer team lost its HCAC opener to Rose-Hulman, falling in the final minute of the second extra period. The loss drops the Jackets to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in HCAC play.
The Engineers got the scoring started in the thirteenth minute of the first half, grabbing a 1-0 lead on a goal by Matt Trowbridge. DC would answer twelve minutes later as Michael Bell weaved his way through the defense, before lifting a shot past Rose-Hulman’s charging keeper to even the score at 1-1.
Keeper Brandon Morgan was the story of the second half for Defiance, as the senior kept all of the Engineers 13 second-half shots at bay. The two teams moved on to the extra period as neither team could find the net in the second half.
After an uneventful first extra period, the second extra period produced seven shots. DC had several looks at the goal in the final extra period, but could not put the ball in the goal. Rose-Hulman would score late in the period stealing a 2-1 victory.
