Cornell Has Career Day, Scores Five Goals in 9-0 Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Defiance College men’s soccer team matched their season goal total in one game, blowing out Taylor-Fort Wayne, 9-0, on Tuesday, October 16. The Jackets have now gone 3-2-1 over their last six.

In just the sixth minute of the contest Joshua Brumfield knocked in the only goal that DC would need. However, the Jackets were not done their, as seven more of their shots would go in as well as an own goal to bring home a 9-0 victory.

Freshman Anthony Cornell had a career day scoring an amazing five goals in the match, while also adding an assist to give him 11 points on the day. His 11 points are the most by any Jacket this season. Craig Burke scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the first half, while Brad Cannon knocked in his third goal of the season late in the second half. Steven Gallagher, Chris Kessler and Greg Vogt also had assists for Defiance.

Keepers Brandon Morgan and Robbie Williamson each played a half of scoreless soccer in the shutout, combining for four saves on the match. Defiance had a season-high 35 shots on goal, outshooting the Falcons 35-4.

The Yellow Jackets, 3-10-1, return to action on Saturday, October 20, when they host the Panthers of Hanover College at the Defiance College Soccer Complex. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
