DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance hosted Transylvania on Saturday with the hopes staying among the leaders in the Heartland Collegiate Conference but came up a bit short as the Pioneers held off the Jackets for the 3-1 win.

Transylvania jumped to the 2-0, first-half lead behind goals from Matt Burton and Thomas Lefler and carried the advantage into the half.

The two-goal lead held up until Daniel Meehan’s second score of the season brought the Jackets to within a single goal with 10 minutes to play.

DC could not get any closer however as Andrew Zemanski found the back of the net in the 88th minute to push the spread back to two at 3-1.

The loss drops Defiance into a tie for fifth in the HCAC with a 2-2 mark in conference play. The Jackets will look to get back on the winning track on Tuesday when they host Taylor of Ft. Wayne at 4:00 pm.
