Season ends for DC soccer

LEXINGTON, Ky.—The Defiance College men’s soccer season came to a close at Transylvania on Tuesday afternoon, falling 1-3 to the Pioneers in the first round of the Heartland Conference Tournament.

DC’s Jared Gray headed in his fourth goal in the last four games to give the Jackets a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute. Transylvania, the HCAC’s top-ranked team, then rallied for three unanswered goals to advance to the league’s championship game on Saturday.

Jeff Meyer had four saves in goal for DC in his final collegiate game, while fellow senior Joel Wilkins had two shots in the contest. The Pioneers out shot the Jackets 15-6, while totaling six corner kicks to DC’s one.

The Jackets end the 2005 season with 6-11 mark overall and a 4-3 record in the HCAC.
