Men’s Tennis edged by Adrian

DEFIANCE, Ohio - A close fought matchup between the Defiance College Men’s Tennis team and Adrian College ended in favor of the Bulldogs as DC was unable to win the matchup, falling by the score 4-5.
All of DC’s wins came in singles play, highlighted by Nate Schwarzbek’s first win in #5 singles, beating Blake Childs 6-1, 6-2. Tim Kurtz moved to 4-4 on the season in #1 singles, defeating Mike Douglas 6-2, 6-1. Tyler Ault picked up another win in #2 singles with his 6-4, 6-0 victory over Danny Krsteski. Ashton Converse’s 6-4, 7-6 win over Steven Kerwin brought him within one win of the .500 mark in #3 singles.
DC was swept in doubles play, as Kurtz and Cody Nash fell 8-6 to Douglas and Childs in the #1 flight. Ault and Converse had a hard-fought bout with Kerwin and Orlo Yeagley but was unable to pull out the victory, dropping the match 9-8. Schwarzbek and Mike Mack did not fare any better in the third flight, falling to Krsteski and Ryan Schmidli 8-4.
Defiance (1-8) will open up its conference season this Friday when the team travels to Hanover for a tri-match against the Panthers and Manchester College.
