Jackets Top Bluffton, Fall to Alma

BLUFFTON, Ohio – Defiance played a pair of non-conference contests on Saturday afternoon, splitting the action with a 5-4 win over Bluffton and a 9-0 loss to Alma. The Yellow Jackets moved to 4-8 on the season.

In the early match against Bluffton, DC jumped out to a 2-1 lead with key victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Tim Kurtz and Austin Kleman then stayed hot, taking straight-set victories at the top two singles spots and Joe Caig secured the team win with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win at No. 4.

The Jackets then ran into a red-hot Alma squad which had won seven of its last eight matches entering play on Saturday. The Scots continued to roll with a pair of 9-0 wins over Bluffton and DC.

Defiance will not play again until it jumps into HCAC action with four matches on April 5 and 6. The Jackets will take on Rose-Hulman and Hanover on Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind., before going up against Franklin and MSJ at Franklin on Sunday.
