BLUFFTON, Ohio Tim Kurtz picked up his 10th win of the season at No. 1 singles, as Defiance blew past Bluffton by an 7-2 score for a conference victory in men’s tennis action on Wednesday evening.
The Yellow Jackets got off to a fast start in doubles play, as Kurtz and Adam Fausey teamed up at the top spot to blank Bluffton’s No. 1 duo of Jon Stout and John Stratford. DC would eventually build a 3-0 lead heading into singles play with wins at No. 2 and 3.
Defiance did not slow down in singles competition, scoring straight-set victories at No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 to finish off the 7-2 team victory. Kurtz moved to 10-7 on the season with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, while Austin Kleman improved his record at No. 2 to 7-5. The Jackets have now picked up wins at each of the top two singles spots in four of their last five matches.
DC ups its record to 6-12 overall with the win and now stands at 2-3 in HCAC action. The Jackets will host a pair of key league matches this Saturday when they welcome Anderson and Transylvania beginning at 9:00 am.
