DC Splits Thursday Matches on the Tennis Courts
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Defiance played its fourth and fifth matches in the past two days on Thursday afternoon, knocking off Eastern Nazarene before coming up short against Division I foe, North Carolina Central.

The Jackets started the afternoon with a 5-4 victory over Eastern Nazarene behind a strong performance in the singles competition. DC got an important point in the doubles action as Tim Kurtz and Adam Fausey picked up an 8-2 win at No. 1.

Defiance then earned wins at No. 1, 2, 4 and 5 singles to seal the one-point team win. Kurtz rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the top singles match, while Austin Kleman, Lachmon Bratton and Joe Caig also won in straight sets.

In the second contest of the day, Defiance hung tough against a D-I opponent in the form of North Carolina Central, before falling by a 6-3 count.

DC’s team of Kleman and Bratton picked up an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles, while Kleman and Caig notched the team’s only singles wins in their matches at No. 3 and No. 5.

Defiance moves to 3-6 after splitting its two matches on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets’ match on Friday against Rensselaer Polytechnic has been cancelled. DC’s next match will be on Saturday when it begins its HCAC schedule with a tri-match at Mount St. Joseph. Defiance is scheduled to play Franklin at 11:00 am and MSJ at 1:00 pm.
