| FRANKLIN, Ind. – Defiance notched its first HCAC victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, blanking the Mount St. Joseph Lions by a 5-0 count. The Jackets also competed against Franklin, falling by a 7-2 score on the Grizzlies’ home courts.
Lachmon Bratton recorded DC’s lone singles win against Franklin, rallying from a 6-2 defeat in the opener to take the match with back-to-back 7-6 victories. In doubles action, the Yellow Jackets scored an 8-6 win as Tim Kurtz and Adam Fausey defeated Brad Lowe and Nathanael Kelly at the No. 1 contest.
Defiance bounced back from the loss to FC by making quick work of Mount St. Joseph. The teams did not compete in doubles play and DC won all five singles matches that were held. Kurtz set the tone with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 and Austin Kleman, Fausey, Joe Caig and Aaron Cottos all followed suit with straight-set wins.
The Jackets move to 5-11 overall with the split and climb to 1-3 in HCAC play. Defiance will take on Adrian on Monday in a home non-conference match beginning at 4:00 pm. DC pulled out a 5-4 win up at Adrian on March 4 for its first win of the season.
